You're probably aware that 5K or 10K races are common fundraisers for non profits. Perhaps you've even been involved in one of these events as a volunteer or a runner, or cheered on someone else participating. It's understandable why they are such popular means of raising money and building awareness: races are fun, social, and people love the chance to run or walk on unique courses. The American Lung Associations Fight For Air Climb takes the idea of a road race and turns it on its head. Literally: it's a vertical race! In cities across the country, tall buildings, arenas or stadiums act as the courses, and participants climb up all the steps to reach the top. On Saturday, March 21st, Philadelphia's 9th Annual Fight For Air Climb will take place at 3 Logan Square, where one of our shops is located!

It's a long way to the top...
It's a long way to the top...

Standing at 55 floors, 3LS is a true skyscraper, and climbing all those steps is no small feat. Participants often sign up in teams to help keep one another motivated. Also, climbers are welcome to walk, run or race, so while there are winners, there's no pressure. The real purpose is to raise money that goes towards the American Lung Association's mission: education, advocacy and research around respiratory health and air quality.

Aside from feeling great about contributing to the cause, the climb is a crazy amazing work out, the atmosphere is exciting, and the views from the top are spectacular. If this speaks to you, consider signing up to climb or to volunteer. We won't lie, it's an early one with a 7AM registration  time, but HubBub will be open that morning, offering free coffee and breakfast to volunteers, as well as our normal offerings for purchase for participants.

Around the corner at 16th & Arch, Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill will be hosting a live feed of the climb for spectators to watch, starting at 8:30AM. Then after the race, Tir Na Nog is offering a buffet for participants, and a specially priced breakfast/lunch menu and drink specials for anyone there to support a participant. All climbers will also receive a free Fight For Air t-shirt - hooray for swag!

For more info, visit the Fight for Air Climb website. We hope to see and serve some of you fuel-up coffee, bright and early on Saturday, March 21st!
