Every 38 minutes, a child in the United States with a life threatening illness is granted a wish. For the past 25 years, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has worked to serve and empower these children and bring joy to their lives. It all started in 1980 with a seven year old boy in Arizona who was diagnosed with leukemia and dreamed of being a police officer; the Arizona Department of Public Safety organized a whole day for him to become an honorary officer. Make-A-Wish now has 62 chapters throughout the United States and has granted thousands and thousands of wishes. You can read here about all kinds of kids' dreams they've helped to come true - from custom made instruments to amazing trips to meeting celebrities and sports stars. The stories are heartbreaking and uplifting all at once.
Chi Omega is the largest women's fraternal organization in the world, with 178 college chapters. Since 2002, they have been part of an alliance with Make-A-Wish foundation, and since then have raised almost $13 million and volunteered over half a million hours for them. Pretty incredible, right?
This Monday, 9/22, HubBub's Spruce Street location is pitching in to the cause: we're donating 10% of our sales from the entire day to Chi Omega + Make-A-Wish, an event we're calling "Coffee with Chio." It's the best reason we can think of to come in, treat yourself to something delicious, and walk out knowing that you've given a little something towards granting a child's wish. You know, sometimes making a difference happens with a grandiose gesture, but other times it happens - just as heroically - through the small but mindful actions of lots of people.
We are thrilled to be able to donate to this great charity. See you on Monday!
