The beginning of a beautiful friendship: HubBub and Little Baby's Ice Cream are teaming up to bring a delicious creation to you: the mighty affogato. Meaning "drowned" in Italian, affogato is a crazy delicious treat: a shot of espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream. Cold meets hot and sharp meets sweet as the crema and coffee melt down the edges of the ice cream. Dudes, if you've never dug your spoon into an affogato, it's something you've GOT to try. This Thursday (April 3rd), to celebrate our joint venture, we'll be hosting the Little Baby's ice cream tricycle at our Spruce Street location. Their tricycles are very cool, a true feat of dessert transport and style.
Depending on the weather, they'll be parked in or outside our shop from 3-6p.m. During that time, they'll be slinging scoops of some of their signature flavors - weird, wonderful, anything but boring - any of which can be affogato-asized with our Stumptown Hairbender espresso. And from Thursday on, affogatos made with Little Baby's Bourbon Bourbon Vanilla will be a staple on our regular menu! So yeah, let's embrace the spring (FINALLY) with frozen treats!
As with so many of our partners, Little Baby's is a local company, HQ'd in East Kensington; they have an outpost in West Philly, too. They make small batch, super premium Philadelphia-style ice cream with high quality, local milk (the same stuff from Trickling Springs that we use), and seasonal ingredients. Vegans, don't cry! They also make tons of non-dairy flavors with a coconut milk base that could fool even the biggest dairy queen.
They're also just rad people: they sell ice cream at parties and shows all over town, they put out mix tapes and zines, have a flavor request/Magic 8-Ball hot line (267-507-4956), and just have a very cool aesthetic and vibe in general. If you've never visited either of their shops, it's highly recommended.
