Last Thursday morning, we made some awesome new friends: the crew from the Behind the Food Carts blog stopped by the Spruce Street HubBub as part of an 8-city road trip. The Behind the Food Carts team is Phil, Kim and Terri. Phil and Kim are professional photographers who have their own business, appropriately named KIM + PHIL Photography, and Terri is a writer - their powers combined obviously make for one kick ass blog!
These three are food lovers who chronicle the food cart scene mainly on the west coast, so if you ever make plans to travel to San Fran, LA, San Jose, or Portland, OR, it can act as a great insider's travel guide. Even if you're not hopping a plane anytime soon, it's a super fun read - but be forewarned: it WILL make you want to eat your weight in burgers, tacos, dumplings and cupcakes!
So, these dudes are turning their award-winning blog into a cook book, and a while ago, they reached out to us to rep the Philly mobile food scene and include a few coffee-based recipes (to say we were honored is an understatement). The purpose of this road trip is to meet the included food truckers in person and get photos for the book, and to eat and drink like kings (JEALOUS). Philly was their stop between D.C. and New York, where they hung out with us, Poi Dog, Lil Pop Shop, Taco Mondo and more! When they came to see us, we had a great time talking Philly food, demonstrating our recipes, and showing off the shop and the truck. Phil and Kim spent most of the time snapping photos and taking video with their bodacious cameras.
They were excited about our operation and seemed to dig the HubBub truck which is flattering since, you know, they've seen their fair share!
Want to know what recipes HubBub contributed to the Behind the Food Carts Cookbook? You'll just have to wait and see! The book is due out around the 2014 holiday season, and we'll definitely have a nice stack of them available for purchase at our shops. Until then, you can keep abreast of the road trip on their blog, including sweet little video recaps that will surely give you that unmistakable urge to get in your car and go, in search of your own culinary adventures.
And finally, in honor of that road trip spirit, we leave you with one of our favorite travel themed songs:
