If Spruce Street between 37th and 38th Streets is part of your commute or daily routine, you've probably witnessed at least a shade of the transformation of our new store.(It's ok if you peek in the windows - we're glad you're curious!) What started as a truly raw, empty space is now just a few weeks out from opening its doors to the world. As each element comes together, it becomes less and less a room, and more and more our new home. Hopefully, you'll begin to call it home, too, even if for just a few minutes each day. As with many projects, visible progress is long, slow in the beginning and then, BAM! Things really start chugging along and all of the sudden, you can see things taking shape. It's like when you move into a new apartment and at first it feels all impersonal and weird. And then, as you start unpacking your stuff, putting your art up on the walls, and your dishes in the cabinets, and your plants on the windowsills, it begins to feel cozier, and just more like yours.
These photos, looking from the doorway into the cafe, were taken less than a month apart. What a difference a few weeks can make, huh? While we don't want to spoil too much of the surprise, we can't resist showing off a few of our new light fixtures, which, if we do say so ourselves, are rather stunning.
The Spruce Street store opens on October 21st. Until then, we'll be putting the finishing touches on the space, making sure that everything's just right for the big day. Please do stop by once we're open to see the shop for yourself!
