Are you stumped on what holiday gift to get for the coffee lover in your life this season? Why not give them a new way to brew? We've put together the perfect brewing kit for anyone who loves great coffee.
This week, we sat down with one of our most experienced baristas, Lori, to learn how to make the perfect cup of HubBub coffee in a V60. Follow along with our step by step guide, complete with pictures, and you'll be drinking great coffee in no time!
The HubBub Coffee Truck is on the move again! This weekend, we’ll be serving coffee from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the start of Philadelphia’s Bikes and Beers ride, sponsored by Yards.
Bikes and Beers is a national organization that coordinates rides in major cities that combine cycling with craft beer. Originating in San Diego, Bikes and Beers has now coordinated rides in Baltimore, San Diego, Wilmington, Salt Lake City, and Raleigh. Each ride partners with a local craft brewery, and raises funds to benefit a local cycling advocacy group.
Brace yourself for a whole lot of awesomeness - in just a few weeks, the HubBub Truck will be rocking and rolling along with many rad folks at Analog-A-Go-Go, a festival celebrating music, food, beer, and good times. Presented by one of our favorite craft breweries EVER, Dogfish Head, this day-long event features amazing bands (Built to Spill, Talib Kweli, and Beach Slang, among others), a vinyl record and artisan market, and a bevy of tasty food and beverages.
We've been blessed with many, many awesome people who have worked at HubBub, adding their own flair to the day-to-day barista responsibilities and making our customers' coffee stops special. Without them, we'd be nothing! One of these folks is Amanda who's been holding it down as the Assistant Manager at our 3 Logan Square shop. She's the kind of person who brings focused enthusiasm to all she does, and can light a room up with her smile. Sure, that might sound a little corny but it's true!
Our newest addition to the Guest Roaster program is Tandem Coffee from Portland, Maine. Currently, we are their only account in Pennsylvania - though we don't suspect it'll stay that way for long. They bring both expert precision and a handcrafted warmth to their products, and keep things fun (so important!). For instance, on the back of their retail coffee bags, the Tandem folks list song suggestions under the tasting notes, a small detail that says so much.
Bikeout, a new Philly-based project, took the guesswork out of mid-range bike touring with their first big group ride, which happened this past weekend, July 16th & 17th. We can tell you a lot more about the weekend, since we were there slinging cold brew from the HubBub Cold Brew Trike!
We're certainly not medical doctors, and as with any vitamin, herb or holistic remedy, it may not be the wisest idea to begin dosing yourself without doing research. But we can say that if you're looking to incorporate more turmeric into your diet and you're all curried out, we've got a delicious way to do it - through our newest JuiceHub blend: Turmeric, Pineapple, Carrot, and Lime!
Currently, we’ve got decaf on the brain again because we’ve just begun serving our own house-roasted decaf blend at all our shops! Exciting stuff. The HubBub Decaf Blend is 20% pulped-natural Nicaraguan and 80% fully washed Honduran coffee from the Fincas Mierisch network of farms, decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process (free of solvents). We’re quite pleased with the amount of sweetness we’ve been able to develop in these beans, with tasting notes of baker's chocolate, nougat and dates.
It’s early June in Philadelphia: flowers are blooming, pools are open, and Philly Beer Week is raging! This annual 10 day celebration in praise of beer and the people who brew it is a proud tradition in our city, and we’re always in awe of the sheer number of events happening as part of it. Beer industry folk and civilian enthusiasts alike zigzag to every corner of Philly in search of fun parties, rare beers, and appearances from brewing celebrities.
The time has come again for us to refresh our pour over coffee menu: we're saying goodbye to our friends Passenger Coffee, and bringing on a new Guest Roaster: Neat Coffee, from Connecticut.
Here at HubBub, we've been looking for a top notch kombucha to add to our cold case, and we're thrilled to connect with Inspired Brews. This Philly-based company was founded in 2014 by friends Jessa Stevens and Jennifer Snow, and makes kombucha that's creatively flavored, beautifully packaged, and most importantly, very delicious.
Here at HubBub, we love a good party. And why not, right? Life can be hard and stressful, so when opportunities for celebration arise, go for it! Gathering with friends and family, recognizing milestones big and small, enjoying a feast or a few special treats - these are the moments that help make life sweet.
This past weekend was the annual Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo. Each year, the coffee community from around the country gathers - this year, in Atlanta, GA - to share information, try new products, attend workshops and seminars and generally just hang out. Oh, and drink coffee! Lots and lots of coffee. This year, we sent a few of our Crew down to join in the festivities. What follows is a recounting of the journey from our Cold Brewer Sean R.:
Not all rockstars needs an outsized ego. For every David Lee Roth, there is a Bob Dylan - the listener, the old soul. Same goes for rockstar baristas - sure, there are a lot of extroverts and giant personalities out there, ripping up the espresso machine. But sometimes, the mellow person who spends time quietly observing and studying is the one making the best drinks in the house.
That's Luke, who works as barista at our 3 Logan and Radnor shops. Since joining us in 2014 as part of Radnor's opening crew, he's impressed everyone with a careful, consistent, methodical style that is the hallmark of real barista talent.
In this season of renewal and change, we are happy to bring something fresh and exciting to HubBub: single origin coffees from Chicago-based Metric Coffee Company, featured on our pour over menu as a Guest Roaster. We started our Guest Roaster program back in November with Passenger Coffee, whom we've come to know and love, and hope you have as well. We're keeping Passenger on through May, but are really digging the idea of a rotating Guest Roaster spot, and after being seriously wowed by samples sent from Metric, we knew they had to be next.
The world of internet news is a wild place - the more content that's out there, the harder it is to sort through it all to find quality stuff about topics that feel relevant to you. That is the problem that Vyrtex, a social content-sharing website, is attempting to solve. This start up, (tagline: "Smart Reads for Smart People") was founded in 2014 by two University of Pennsylvania students, Taylor and Dilip, both of whom are regular customers at our Spruce Street shop!
Here's a riddle: when is a cookie not a cookie? Answer: when it's a NOMsense cookie sandwich (aka "NOMwhich")! Oh yes, these are so much more than just your average cookie; they're an entire dessert experience wrapped up in a neat, delicious, portable package. A NOMwhich comes in a bunch of flavors, but it's always two cookies with an indulgent filling, a sweet drizzle, and crunchy topping. NOMwhiches are a manifestation of NOMsense's core philosophy: "dessert maximalism."
This is it - the end of January, the dark days of mid-winter. The holidays are but a distant and sparkling memory, and spring feels like a long, long way off indeed. These can be long, lonely days, complete with shoulder-hunched trudges to and from work, school, etc. The urge to hunker down under a blanket at sunset and not emerge until morning is very real. We understand! Some nights you've gotta stay in and indulge in whatever your ideal cozy scenario is.
At HubBub, we've got something new to help meet your daily fruit and veg requirements in a delicious, easy way: JuiceHub cold pressed juices. These beauties are 100% vegan, raw, organic, and made around the way in Ardmore, PA. We've had green and orange juice for awhile now, but are very excited to share our new expanded line up with you!
It's always fun when HubBub fans tag us in their Instagram posts (@hubbubcoffee, btw!). We get to see ourselves through the eyes of our customers, and get little glimpses into what they enjoy about us. Over the past 6 months, we've been getting occasional IG notifications from @colleenadelphia, who always seems stoked on sharing the HubBub love. So we decided to reach out to her. We met up the other day to chat, over coffee of course. Colleen was friendly, easy going, and sweet. We had a great time learning more about her story!
